What is the England Squad for the Stanford Super Series?
Tuesday, September 09, 2008 : Stanford Files, England, Twenty20
England have selected 15 men for the England squad for the Standford Super Series starting next month. If they win, the starting 11 will earn £500,000 for 3 hours work. If they lose they go home with nothing. Is this really England's best 15 Twenty20 players (Alastair Cook?) or 15 England players rewarded with a healthy paycheck?
England Squad for the Stanford Super Series
- Kevin Pietersen (Captain)
- James Anderson
- Ian Bell
- Ravi Bopara
- Stuart Broad
- Paul Collingwood
- Alastair Cook
- Andrew Flintoff
- Stephen Harmison
- Samit Patel
- Matt Prior
- Owais Shah
- Graeme Swann
- Ryan Sidebottom
- Luke Wright
Those players in the squad not selected for the final 11 will be missing out on an estimated £400,000, so there maybe a few nasty bouncers flying down in net practice. Mind you if I was Steve Harmison, or any of the squad for that matter, I wouldn't go anywhere near the nets, rather than risk a broken finger, ahead of the Stanford 20/20 for 20 and £500,000 (or possibly £1 Million if he was Man of the Match).
I think Sir Allen Stanford is a fan of Abba's 'The Winner Takes it All', whereas the players love 'Money, Money, Money'.
