What is the Batting Power Play?Since October 2008, the batting side are allowed to select a 5 over period at any point during their innings during which the fielding side are only allowed 3 fielders outside of the 30 yard inner circle. It has been brought in to bring extra excitment to the middle and closing overs of 50-over One Day International cricket.

It is one of 3 powerplays during a teams inninngs. The first powerplay lasts for the first 10 overs. The second lasts for 5 overs and is chosen by the fielding captain and usually takes place during overs 11-15.

Most batting captains are taking the batting power play after over 34 when a second, harder white ball is introduced into the match.

The 30-yard inner circle is drawn for each set of stumps and is oval in shape and relects the shape of the rectangular wicket.
