What Price The Ashes? Cricket Australia set for big Financial LossPreparing another spicy pitch in Melbourne may help Australia in their bid to win back the Ashes but at what cost? Another 3 day Test Match is not going to help the dire finances of Cricket Australia.

As reported in the Telegraph Cricket Australia is set for a loss this year of around £9 million as the harsh realities of the economic recession and the slump in its team’s fortunes bites. Another early finish in the Melbourne Test Match would be another financial disaster. The ‘G’ has a capacity of over 100,000 fans.

A loss this financial year maybe offset next year when India tour Australia. Apparently an Indian touring side generate six times more than an Ashes series in Television rights. Frightening.

The Lesser Spotted Spinner

Also playing a battery of five seamers on spicy pitches is admitting that Australia doesn’t have a Test class spinner. What will happen when they tour again especially on the sub-continent? It will be another baptism of fire for some poor unfortunate as we have seen in the recent past.

Maybe shane Warne can come to Cricket Australia's assistance, not by cranking out some ageing leg-spin, but lending them some Aussie Dollars from his mutli-national business empire.
