Test Cricket can mess with your head... and your mind
Monday, September 27, 2010 : The Ashes, England, Tests
Everyone knows being a good Test cricketer isn’t just about your technique. To paraphrase the movie School of Rock, ‘Test Cricket can mess with your head... and your mind.’ So why is Andy Flower being criticised for organising a few days away from cricket to ‘develop minds’ and self-awareness?
It is designed to educate all of us, to give us a good sense of perspective on things, to allow the guys to become more self-aware, and allow the guys to understand each other better," Flower said. Sounds good. I don’t think the players are likely to aggravate injuries doing that. Andy Flower isn’t that stupid!
Andy Flower has presided over a successful period for English cricket. He seems to be a calm, methodical man, a leader, who is quite prepared to make tough decisions. It took a big man to handle the KP situation as he did.
In 6 months time when England have retained the Ashes and may also have done well at the World Cup, Andy Flower MBE will be the order of the day. Take a bow son.
