Is Test Cricket Under Threat? Welcome to the WCL - World Club League

World Cricket LeagueIf cricketers can make a better living out of playing Twenty20 cricket rather than Test matches then that's what they will do. Cricket is undergoing a transition where the rewards of short-form cricket are beginning to out-weigh that of the longer game. This is going to force cricketers to make choices that will undermine Test cricket.

Greg Chappell sees club franchises as the new world cricket market - "I can see a future where a Mumbai club plays New York, plays London, plays Singapore".

India already play more ODI cricket than Tests? How long will Pakistan go without playing a Test and if Sir Allen Stanford has his way will the West Indies play many more 'boring' Test series. Is this something we should worry about? Can we see in 5-10 years time England only playing Test cricket against Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh? Will there be a need to invite more countries into the Test cricket fold as others leave or play much less?

Will there still be 50-over cricket? Will cricket evolve into a baseball-type game where there are multi 10 or 20-over innings during a match. Will a days cricket for a spectator at the ground consist of a number of short matches with more than 2 teams present to make up a day's play. Will there even be spectators in 20 years time or will we all be watching the World Club League on TV?
