Technology in Football - Cricket as the ExampleNot using technology in football makes as much sense as the X Factor’s Wagner. Sepp Blatter (FIFA) and Michel Platini (UEFA) have embraced their own madness in not wanting technology in football. Cricket however is a shining example of how technology can help the elite while club players carry on enjoying the game as they always have.

Run-Out replays not only get the decision right they add to the entertainment, the tension builds in the crowd as the spinning bat (or whatever sponsorship item it may be) twists until the word Out explodes onto the screen.

Hawk-Eye and television replays show whether every LBW shout was a good one or just Shane Warne trying it on again. For every snick we have Snicko and the brilliant Hot-Spot. Full credit must go to Cricket’s administrators for the introduction of this technology and to the umpires for embracing it too.

Cricket is not often ahead of Football but on the issue of technology at least Cricket is in the 21st Century.
