More Super Sunday T20 Cricket Format Please
Friday, October 01, 2010 : Twenty20, Clubs
There is disagreement amongst the counties on what to do with the T20 format next season. Most counties want fewer matches (10 instead of 16) but for some counties, such as Essex, T20 has been a money spinner. What to do? Maybe utilise the Super Sunday format more?
The Super Sunday format of finals day where 4 teams turn up, play 2 semi-finals and then a final is a great draw. Why not utilise this format during the season. It would result in fewer match days, less travelling and an easier sell for marketing men.
I’m not saying do away with Friday, Monday or the odd midweek evening match but spice it up with Super Sunday format too. Tickets could be sold in 3 ways: All Day Ticket; Afternoon & Evening Ticket; Evening Ticket Only.
Maybe this can reduce the number of pointless games, help with the structuring of scheduling. Also for many fans a single T20 is not long enough to warrant a long journey.
Also lets open up at least 1 cricket competition to Associate Countries and Minor Counties a la the FA Cup. Maybe this could also be done with T20?
