A Lot of Hard Yakka Review
Simon Hughes first cricket book A Lot of Hard Yakka described by Mike Brearley as ‘A devastating account of English cricket and its shortcomings... The book describes the shocking lack of ambition, dedication, coaching and leadership in English cricket.’ A Lot of Hard Yakka gives an insight into the day to day life of a professional cricketer in the Eighties and how it’s the dressing room characters that get you through the day and the season. A Lot of Hard Yakka is recommended by No Third Man.
And God Created Cricket Review
Simon Hughes most recent cricket book, And God Created Cricket, is an irreverent description of the history of the game. John Majors ‘More Than a Game’ it is not, thank god. It’s an easy read with the odd moment of faction and imaginative flights of fancy. But it does describe the real history of cricket and how it evolved in this country including how sideline betting helped the game develop. And God Created Cricket is also recommended by No Third Man.
