What is the Most Significant Event In World Cricket in the Last Month?
Monday, October 18, 2010 : ODI
It’s not Sachin Tendulkar’s 14000 runs. It’s not Australia’s 2-0 defeat. It’s not Chris Gayle losing the WI captaincy and it’s not even James Hildreth getting hitched? No, no, no. It’s the coming of age of Bangladesh as an ODI side.
OK Bangladesh are not quite competitive in Test Cricket, but now in ODIs they have beaten England away and now trounced New Zealand 4-0 at home. This achievement is more remarkable as it has been made without the services of their best batsman, Tamim Iqbal.
These results see Bangladesh draw level on points with the West Indies in the ICC ODI Rankings. New Zealand stay just above them above at #7. Australia are still way out in front at #1.
Playing at home seems to provide a massive advantage in world cricket at the moment. So let’s see how Bangladesh do in their next away series to get a better idea of progress, but as it says on the Bangladesh Cricket website... The Kiwis got Banglawashed! How kind of the Kiwis to let Bangladesh win 4 in a row. Perhaps this is why they keep winning the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award.
