Mark Ramprakash scores third successive hundred

Thursday, August 21, 2008 : County Championship

Mark RamprakashFirst-class centuries 100, 101 and 102, for Mark Ramprakash, were scored on the bounce. Today's dismissal brought his scoring run without being dismissed to a total of 490. Scores of 112*, 200* and finally 178 were made from 875 balls with 56 fours and 4 sixes.

Is this a record no of runs between being out in first-class cricket? No. In Test cricket alone 2 have equalled or bettered this figure (Sachin Tendulkar and Gary Sobers). Five batsman have achieved more than 450 runs between being dismissed.

  • 497 by Sachin Tendulkar in 2003-04 (241*, 60*, 194* and 2)
  • 490 by Gary Sobers in 1957-58
  • 473 by Rahul Dravid in 2000-01
  • 456 by Jacques Kallis in 2001-02
  • 453 by Brian Lara in 2003-04 (400*, 53)

Brian Lara scored a total of 520 in consecutive first-class innings in 1994 (501* and 19). Both Brian Lara and Everton Weekes have scored five successive first class centuries. Mark Ramprakash doesn't have many more milestones to target. Can Ramps go for this?

The first-class record is 709 (218*, 36*, 234*, 77* and 144) by K.C.Ibrahim for Bombay in 1947-48. Three others (G.A.Hick 645, V.M.Merchant 634 and E.H.Hendren 630) have enjoyed an unbroken runs sequence of 600 or more.
