Test Cricket Is Dead - Long Live Test Cricket

Test Cricket Is Dead - Long Live Test CricketShortly after India secured their 1 wicket victory against Australia, 6 of the top 10 trending topics on Twitter were related to the match - VVS, Laxman, Ishant, Sharma. People still love Test Cricket, even in India.

I wouldn’t want to be Ricky Ponting’s chewing gum. At 124-8 the game was up. India, still requiring 92 to win when Ishant Sharma walked to the crease, must have feared the worst. But with VVS Laxman at the crease, a man practised in denying Australian victory, India still had a chance. The high drama that followed is a big shot in the arm for Test Cricket.

The BCCI and maybe Indian cricket fans too seem to favour ODI and T20 cricket. The fact that only 5 men and a dog were at the ground at Mohali, to watch the match’s changing fortunes, seemed to bear this out. But the torrent of tweets after the result show that Indians are still mesmerised by their heroes performing in the hardest form of the game. Long Live Test Cricket!
