England Twenty20 Specialists for the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup?
Sunday, November 09, 2008 : Twenty20, England
Congratulations to the England team that won the Hong Kong Sixes 2008. All of the playing squad are ideally suited to this ultra short-form of the game, with some explosive hitters in the same mould and technique as Chris Gayle. Will we be seeing some of these names appearing for England at next years Twenty20 World Cup?
- Dimitri Mascarenhas (Captain)
- Tim Bresnan
- Ed Joyce
- Darren Maddy
- Graham Napier
- Jonathan Trott
- Graham Wagg
Dimitri Mascarenhas won the Ben Hollioake Trophy as Player of the Tournament and for England it was their fifth victory in the tournament after previous successes in 1993-94 and 2003-04.
England and New Zealand are the only major cricket nations to have never won a World Cup. Maybe, instead of using Twenty20 cricket as a team building exercise for the longer forms of the game, the England management will attempt to put together the best team able to compete for this World Cup.
