Who are the England Cricket Selectors?
Saturday, August 16, 2008 : Reference, England
Just who are the England cricket selectors and what have they done in cricket? Will they be able to mould a team in time to repeat our last Ashes Victory
?
Geoff Miller
Geoff Miller played 34 Tests for England between 1976 and 1984 as a middle-order bat and off-spinner. He was elected as National Selector by the England and Wales Cricket Board in January 2008 after previously serving on the panel of his predecessor David Graveney since 2000.
Ashley Giles
Ashley Giles played 54 Tests and 62 One Day Internationals for England before being forced to retire due to a recurring hip injury. Christened ‘The King of Spain’ or the ‘Wheely Bin’ by commentators, Ashley Giles was a much-maligned left-arm spinner and lower order bat. However, he had the last laugh as part of the 2005 England cricket team that claimed Ashes Victory
, taking 10 important wickets and adding a useful 155 runs, including his highest test score of 59 at the Oval.
James Whitaker
James Whitaker played in one Test and two ODIs for England in 1986. He had a successful county career at Leicestershire CCC
as player, captain, coach and director of cricket.
Peter Moores
Peter Moores was appointed coach of the England cricket team in April 2007 following previous coach Duncan Fletcher
into the job. He is a former English county cricketer who played as a wicketkeeper for Worcestershire and Sussex, captaining Sussex in 1997. Moores was a successful coach of Sussex leading the county to their first County Championship in 2003. He has risen through the England ranks having been an England "A" coach and head of the English National Cricket Academy from October 2005 to 2007.
