Ed Smith Books Early Retirement
Wednesday, November 26, 2008 : Reference, Books, County Championship, England
Ed Smith will be writing more new books as he has announced he is retiring from first class cricket. At only 31 he joins a list of players such as Alex Louden and Ben Hutton who have retired early.
Ed Smith scored 34 centuries in his career, over 12000 runs and reached 1000 runs for the season 8 times. Seven of those centuries came in 2003 while playing for Kent, earning him a Test call. His debut match against South Africa saw him score an encouraging 64. However low scores followed and he was overlooked for the Winter tour party.
Ed has a double-first from Cambridge and has written a number of books including his 2003 season diary On and Off The Field which includes an insiders view on Andrew Symonds. Now it seems Ed Smith will be spending more time off the field, hopefully to write some more revealing cricket books.
