The ECB's Barling Duds of May
Sunday, October 19, 2008 : TV & Radio, England, Tests
As previously discussed, England won't be playing Sri Lanka next May, while the best Sri Lankan players are playing in the IPL. The news today is that the West Indies have stepped into the breach. The ECB's new 'special relationship' with the Stanford backed WICB has saved the ECB TV schedule commitment for next year. So that's next year sorted but what will happen in subsequent years?
The ICC has kindly decided to hold the World Twenty20 competition in April/May of 2010. This will probably force the IPL to shift the dates of it's event earlier in the year. What happens in 2011 and beyond? Presumably a diet of Test teams that aren't bereft of their best players (playing IPL) namely Zimbabwe or the West Indies, the 'Barling Duds of May'. Wah!
