Selling TV Rights Doesn’t Have To Be All Or Nothing

Selling TV Rights Doesn’t Have To Be All Or NothingWhilst perusing the UK live TV protected sports event list I was struck by the fact that no cricket is included. At all.

I know the pro arguments for selling cricket broadcasting rights and broadly I agree with them. The ECB, the England team, county cricket and the recreational game would all suffer financially.

But, it shouldn't be that ALL cricket is covered by the agreements the ECB sign (or ICC for that matter). How about excluding the Finals of the Twenty20 and ODI World Cups. OK that would mean a bit less money, but at least all kids had the opportunity to see their heroes win a World Cup. It wouldn’t happen in Football, Rugby, or even Rugby League.
