Cricket Journalistic ClichesYou say Cliche, I say Clichay. Here are some of Cricket’s Journalistic Cliches:

  • curtain raiser - first game of season, usually preceded by ‘traditional’
  • season finale - last game of season, usually preceded by ‘traditional’
  • ... heavy balls - I’m sorry but that has to mean Joel Garner, doesn’t it?
  • memorable spells - well, Expelliarmus is the only one I can ever remember
  • doldrum middle overs - proper ODI cricket when there’s no silly fielding restrictions and it’s damned hard to score
  • the right areas - where you have to move to to get your kids educated right
  • England on back foot - where England normally were when Dippy was playing
  • corridor of uncertainty - anywhere in a Maze

Spot-fixing allegations, England retirements, fighting in the Nets and Jimmy Anderson’s photo shoot. Just another cliche day in Cricket. Yawn.
