County Cricket Championship September Fixtures - The run in to the title.
Saturday, September 06, 2008 : County Championship
With the main contenders all drawing because of rain, how do things stand in the chase for the County Championship? Durham are still the Betfair bookies favourites.
In an open contest this year a number of counties are still capable of winning the title. The three main contenders are Nottinghamshire, Somerset and Durham, with the latter two never having won it before.
Here are the remaining fixtures for the September run in to the title:
Somerset
Durham (H)
Yorkshire (A)
Lancashire (H)
Durham
Somerset (A)
Sussex (H)
Kent (A)
Nottinghamshire
Surrey (A)
Hampshire (H)
Both Nottinghamshire and Somerset were promoted form the second division last year, with Nottinghamshire looking to repeat their Championship success of 2005 after being promoted the previous year. In 2006 however they were relegated. Durham are aiming to better last year's second place finish to Sussex.
It now looks like the next game between Somerset and Durham will have a major influence over the final result. Durham are still the Betfair bookies favourites.
