Australian Selectors Have Attack of Beer Goggles
Friday, December 10, 2010 : The Ashes, Extras, England, Tests
Beware ‘Beer Goggles’ can strike at any moment. This phenomenon, also known as ‘Cider Visor’ or ‘Stella Vision’ can seriously affect your judgement, so much so that an innocuous left-arm trundler can appear to be the the answer to all your problems.
Imagine you are an Australian Selector. There you are innocently watching a State match when on comes a young unknown spinner. You sit up and pay attention. Then you feel a strange feeling overwhelming you, it’s Beer Goggles.
This can only explain how both Xavier Doherty (XD) and Michael ‘Frosty’ Beer have been selected. Maybe Steve O'Keefe will follow and debut at the MCG before Haury old Hauritz returns for the SCG?
If you are an Australian Selector suffering from Beer Goggles and you’re sitting in the Doctors Waiting Room, please try and ignore the urge to discard your latest spinning selection when the nurse shouts ‘Next’.
