How many Ashes participants would make a current World XI? In the No Third Man XI only 1, Graeme Swann, with no place for an Australian. In the crazy world of the ICC XI then 4, Simon Katich?, Graeme Swann, The Burnley Swinger and Chubbie B.
England and Australia are at #4 and #5 in the world of Test Cricket. In several large parts of the world the Ashes will be a side show. So how do 4 Ashes participants make up half the ICC side?
Simon Katich, although he makes the best of his talent, I’m sorry, is not a World Class cricketer. As for Chubbie B? Oh come on please! He looks like Desperate Dan without the hat. A bowler with all the athletic attributes of Bernard Manning.
The Burnley Swinger isn’t a lot better as we’ll soon find out on difficult pitches with no swing, Irish or otherwise. Graeme Swann however is the real deal and it is such a shame it look so long for his (second) chance to come.
