Npower Ashes Series 2009 LogoAshes tickets to the Edgbaston 2009 Test are sold out for the first three days. There maybe further tickets available if some more temporary seating is brought in but this is as yet undecided (probably Health & Safety issues to be resolved). There are seats available for the 4th day, Sunday 2nd August. With ticket prices at £75 each and demand massively outpacing supply, what sort of price could Edgbaston have charged?

The first three days were sold out even before tickets go on sale to the general public (1st October). Glamorgan are charging between £50 and £85, Headingley Carnegie between £50-£75, Lords tickets are expected to be up to £90 and the Oval charged between £45-£95 for this summer's match against South Africa. Surely it won't be long before it will cost £100 to watch a day's Ashes cricket.

However, with Twenty20 expected to dominate the attentions of the cricket watching public over the next 10 years have we reached a peak for ticket prices for Test match cricket and the Ashes Series 2009 in particular. Demand for this years Ashes reflects the level of interest that spread throughout the nation in 2005. Then each closely fought Test was watched by millions on Terrestrial TV. With coverage being solely on Sky, will the country be equally gripped this time around?
