Who are our Ashes Backup Bowlers?
Monday, September 13, 2010 : The Ashes, England, Tests
There seems to be a lot of optimism about Engalnd’s chances of winning in Australia for the first time in eons (23 years). May I reluctantly introduce a note of pessimism here. What happens if Swanny breaks a finger or his rock band make it big? What happens if Broad and Finn are blown over in high winds?
What if they are mistakenly left inside the Giraffe enclosure at Longleat one night? What about the ‘Burnley Swinger’ you say. Well, of the 3 Tests Jimmy Anderson played in last time around in Aus his figures weren’t too memorable (141-1, 54-0, 85-1, 32-0, 88-3 and 12-0).
Who will make up England’s bowling attack then? The next taxis on the rank are Bresnen, Shahzad, Sidebottom and Panesar, Tredwell or Rashid? Sounds a bit like Silverwood, Tudor, Harmison, White and a lot like plenty of time chasing leather.
