Cannon & Ball, Vic & Bob, Pete & Dud, the Chuckle Brothers, these are some of England’s famous comedy duos. Now appearing every night, on ITV4 for a full 60 minutes, are new guys on the block Al Cook and Jon Trott, in their hilarious new show ‘They Don’t Like It Up ‘Em’.
‘It’s not the Fast Show’ wrote one critic recently and one cannot disagree. In fact for long periods there is very little action, virtually no dialogue, just the sound of the scoreboard relentlessly ticking over. The two main stars are ably supported by 11 Australian comedy stooges who combine theatrical face pulling with slapstick fielding.
In the next episode, extra, Ricky Ponting, will be appearing in a pair of clown shoes when he comes out to field. Comedy is all in the timing and these two display this as effortlessly as their heroes Eric and the Little Urn.
