Alastair Cook is one of England's top Twenty20 players. Not.
Tuesday, September 09, 2008 : Stanford Files, England, Twenty20
I have nothing against AC as a Test cricketer or even possibly as an ODI performer but Twenty20? The fact that he has been selected in England's best 15 is expedient. How does his Essex team-mate Graham Napier feel about it? For that matter how does Sir Allen Stanford feel about it? I'm sure he would prefer to have entertainers capable of smashing 16 sixes and 10 fours in 58 balls to score the second highest individual total in Twenty20's short history. The Stanford Super Series is about taking the Twenty 20 product to the world and selling it. It could be argued that this selection shows either:
- the ECB to be treating Stanford as a gravy train
- the idea of specialist Twenty20 players is dead (not a great incentive for county players)
- that the England selectors haven't a clue about Twenty20 cricket or what Sir Allen Stanford is about
| Player | Matches | Runs | Average | Highest Score |
|---|
| Alastair Cook | 5 | 50 | 10 | 15 |
| Graham Napier | 39 | 515 | 22.39 | 152* |
Graham Napier also bowls a bit too.
