40 Test Match Hundreds for Sachin Tendulkar
Friday, November 07, 2008 : Reference, Legends, Tests
Congratulations to Sachin Tendulkar for reaching another batting landmark, 40 Test Match Hundreds. Playing in his 154th Test he re-built the Indian innings after they had lost 3 quick wickets, in an important partnership with VVS Laxman. After scoring 16 hundreds before he was 25 he has gone on to add another 24 in the last 10 years.
Tendulkar and Ponting are competing to finish their careers with the most Test runs and hundreds. So Ricky must have been fuming when Tendulkar survived a run-out chance on 74 and was dropped twice on 85 and 96, before reaching his 40th Test hundred. Both are great players and it will inevitably come down to a battle of longevity and fitness, an area where Ponting seems to have an edge. After nearly 20 years of playing international cricket how many more series and hundreds are there for Sachin Tendulkar?
