The 20 Million Dollar Man is Kevin Pietersen

Tuesday, September 09, 2008 : England, Stanford Files, Twenty20

20 Million Dollar ManShort-form cricket has it's pressures for a captain, just ask Paul Collingwood, but what kind of pressure will England captain Kevin Pietersen be under during the Stanford 20/20 for 20 on November 1. As only the winning team receive any purse from the match, the captain's decisions will be amplified to the tune of 20 million dollars. He will be the 20 Million Dollar Man. Let's hope it goes well and we don't have to re-build him.

The difficulty in captaining a cricket team is much under-estimated. There seems to be a life-span for England captains and for many in county cricket the extra pressure of captaincy has been too much. Kevin Pietersen has the capacity to deal with any challenge and this first match of five annual events will be the biggest of his career.

Sadly, I don't think we'll be seeing Charlotte Edwards, the England Women's captain, as the 20 Million Dollar Bionic Women, anytime soon.
